Studio Activities Week 9
(model 2) 1:20 scale
(Model 4) 1:20 scale
Thesis:
Equilibrium of light and dark.
The way we experience internal and external places can very much depend on the perpetual oscillating relationship between light and dark. When light and dark are in harmony within architecture, the space is inviting, comforting and inspiring, allowing the building to complement the outside environment and vice-versa. I believe my second model effectively utilises external light to enhance the internal experience of the architecture. Upon entering long rectangular windows leak light into the hallway from both sides, leading you through to a temple like structure, which features one singular sky light, invoking a visitors curiosity and imagination. Thus when utilised correctly, both light and dark can strongly enhance our experience of the built environment.
